The Internet is a System
📏 Basic Internet Use Logic 📏
We will examine a few things to think about when accessing the Internet. And we will look at troubleshooting when you cannot access the Internet.
⇒ Before you navigate to your digital destination, take a minute and recognize the Internet is a system.
View Troubleshooting Internet Issues
Much like the human body or an automobile,
the Internet is a system with Inputs and Outputs.
As you come to know the Internet and are more comfortable in navigating digital resources, you will better appreciate it as a logical system.
The Internet or ‘World Wide Web” is a global system of interconnected computer networks that links computers and devices using a language called TCP/IP.
Think of the Internet (the Web) as a network of many networks all around the world.
In terms of function, what does this mean to you, the digital traveler?
The Internet is the destination for applications, email, internet telephone systems, music, television, newspapers … and information.
Let’s Take a Look at Troubleshooting Internet Connection Issues
A logical system approach to troubleshooting access to the Internet
from a computer or mobile device:
- Is there power to the computer or mobile device,
- Is my computer or mobile device connected to the network (wireless or wired network),
- Am I using the correct tool to access the Internet (browser),
- Is my query (website name) correct and in the correct format
- Website name entered into the address bar
- Spelled correctly
- Ending in “.com,” “.edu,” “.gov,” …
- Did I hit Enter (Windows) or Return (MAC)
- Is the internet resource still active and responsive?
- If “NO,” …to any one of the above…try again.
Notice the similarities between internet troubleshooting –
and troubleshooting a car (for example).
A car engine is a logical system.
Car engines are governed by the logic of mechanical engineering.
The Internet is also a system governed by logic.
Now you are beginning to recognize the Internet as a system –
When you develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for the Internet System, you’ll be equipped to see how (and why) things come together…
This will enable you to be better and faster in using the internet.
Issues like navigating mobile devices, network connectivity, access (login with username and password), and retrieving sought-after information or digital resources – will no longer be a major obstacle.
Now You are Thinking Systematically!
When you look at a system, like the Internet described above – in a deliberate, linear approach – you are thinking systematically!
Use these logical approaches when learning – and troubleshooting access to – the internet and internet resources.
